As we were getting ready for the Tuesday night sports betting action to begin with the NBA, NHL and college basketball, all I could think of is that I miss mid-week MACtion!!!!
Oh, well, we have to wait until Saturday for the Mid-American Championship Game. In the meantime, I lost my best bet on Tuesday as the Warriors played sloppy down the stretch (and actually all game long) and came up short as 3-point underdogs in a 104-96 loss as the Suns won their 17th straight game.
The dog we should have landed on was Ohio State against No. 1 Duke, who suffered a letdown after beating former No. 1 Gonzaga last Friday night.
Let’s get to the Tuesday night recaps, then I have the in-season contest winners in the Westgate SuperContest, which had a six-week contest and three-week contest that both concluded with NFL Week 12 (note: Circa Sports Million’s 3rd Quarter ends this upcoming weekend after NFL Week 13).
Tuesday’s recaps
NBA: Suns beat Warriors 104-96 late Tuesday night for their 17th straight victory and tied them for the best record in the NBA at 18-3. The Suns also covered after closing as 3-point home favorites while the game stayed way Under the betting total of 222.5 points. Faves went 3-1 SU on Tuesday (Lakers-Kings closed pick-'em), but only 2-2 ATS as Knicks (%plussign% 6) covered in a 112-110 loss at the Nets. The lone upset was by the Grizzlies (%plussign% 3 in a 98-91 win at the Raptors). Unders went 4-1 and improved to 178-138-3 (56.3 percent) on the season.
CBB: Ohio State rallied to upset No. 1 Duke 71-66 late Tuesday night. The Buckeyes did it as 3-point home underdogs and %plussign% 145 on the money line. The game stayed Under the betting total of 147.5 points.
NHL: Faves went 5-3 Tuesday with upsets by the Red Wings (%plussign% 184 in 2-1 win at Bruins), Sharks (%plussign% 125 in 5-2 win at Devils) and Ducks (%plussign% 110 in 5-4 shootout win at Kings). Overs went 6-2.
Contest Corner
SuperContest in-season contest winners were announced on Tuesday. There was a three-way tie for first place in the Week 7-12 six-week contest as FRIDAY ALAN, PORK CHOP HEROES and STAG CLEAR CAP each went 23-7 (76.7 percent) and won $55,333.35 apiece. There was a six-way tie for fourth place between AMIRLAYLA, JVT, LITOFSKY CLAN, OWENSWEATPANTS23, PICKSWISE 3 and STYLIN at 22-8 (73.3 percent) and they each collect $1,250. And, yes, “JVT” is VSiN’s very own Jonathan Von Tobel!
In the shorter Week 9-12 three-week in-season contest, there was a five-way tie for first between BIZMAN, DIRTY JERSEYAN, HOW BOUT THAT, ROTHFILE and THE SPAGELLI GARAGE at 13-2 (86.7 percent), so they each win $21,000.
Wednesday’s Take
Cavaliers %plussign% 7.5 at Heat: The Warriors let us down on Tuesday, but we’re going to go back to the well with the underrated Cavaliers, who we cashed on last Wednesday as 6.5-point home dogs vs. the Suns! The Cavaliers are a middle-of-the-road 11-10 on the season, but they’re an outstanding 14-6-1 ATS (70 percent) as they’ve covered four times in SU losses as the oddsmakers and public continue to dismiss them. Granted, the Cavs are a shadow of the team they were when LeBron James ran the show, but they seem to have a different player step up every night, whether it’s Ricky Rubio, Darius Garland, Lauri Markkanen or someone else. Gimme the generous points.
Good luck today (and every day!).
