College Football Best Bets:
We’re very happy with the start of the college football season in the Tuley’s Takes home office, and hoping that our college football best bet success carries over the rest of the season as well as the NFL with our “dog or pass” approach.
After nailing Georgia Tech +10.5 vs. Florida State with the 24-21 outright upset in Week 0 two weeks ago in this “Tuley’s Takes” CFB column that will continue to be posted by Thursday nights this season at VSiN.com, we started Week 1 last Saturday with Eastern Michigan +2.5 upsetting UMass 28-14 and then added Notre Dame +3 upsetting Texas A&M 23-13 to improve to 3-0 ATS (with three outright upsets!) before losing with Wyoming +7 in 48-7 loss at Arizona State. You can’t win ‘em all, but we sure try.

Regardless, that makes us 3-1 ATS (75%) this season. Hopefully, we have three more live dogs for Week 2 this Saturday.
Texas Tech +2 at Washington State
Saturday, 10 p.m. ET (FOX)
The Over/Under is set at 66 points for a reason, as both offenses played well in their Week 1 wins. But both defenses left a lot to be desired as Washington State routed Portland State 70-30 and Texas Tech squeaked by Abilene Christian 52-51 in OT. The Red Raiders were seemingly in control with a 32-14 lead but allowed Abilene to rally. Still, I’m not sure the right team is favored (a common theme regular readers will remember is that I feel home-field advantage is still being given too much weight these days, even in college football), so I’ll gladly take the points and call for the outright upset. Tech QB Behren Morton threw for 378 and 5 TDs, while RB Tahj Brooks added 153 yards on the ground for a more balanced attack that the Red Raiders should be able to take on the road.
College Football Best Bet: Texas Tech +2
Louisiana-Monroe +13 vs. UAB
Saturday, 7:00 p.m. ET (ESPN+)
This is a case of the line being too high between these two teams. Both rolled over FCS opponents in their openers – UAB routed Alcorn State 41-3, while UL-Monroe beat Jackson State 30-14. UAB was more impressive, but not by that much, considering the competition. UL-Monroe showed more of a running game with 204 yards on the ground, led by 103 by Ahmad Hardy, and we’re counting on that to shorten the game and keep it close, at least within two TDs (though I wouldn’t be surprised if this came down to a one-score game, which I guess is why I like this play).
College Football Best Bet: Louisiana-Monroe +13
South Carolina +7 at Kentucky
Saturday, 3:30 p.m. ET (ABC)
Both teams opened with victories. Kentucky routed and shut out Southern Miss 31-0, while South Carolina outlasted Old Dominion 23-19. Again, this is a case of the line being a little too high. Kentucky is decent, but I don’t believe the Wildcats are a full touchdown better than the Gamecocks. Spencer Rattler is gone from USC (I hate that abbreviation for South Carolina), and dual-threat QB Raheim Sanders has taken the reins. He wasn’t spectacular at 10-for-23 for 114 yards and no TDs, but added 88 rushing yards and a TD. He’ll improve and keep this close in what should be a relatively low-scoring game, so the points could very well come into play.
College Football Best Bet: South Carolina +7
