Editor’s note: Just like he did during the 40-day Saratoga meet last summer, Ed Sehon (aka Mr. Ed) will provide VSiN readers with daily picks during the 15-day Keeneland meet that opened last Friday and runs through Friday, April 29. Sehon’s selections are meant to give an overview of how to attack each day’s card through the use of Best Bets on individual horses as well as multi-race wagers (which are meant to give a more comprehensive look at the card, so feel free to pick-and-choose from the selections in those races and mix with your own handicapping). He generally tries to do it on a bankroll of (about) $100 a day, though will sometimes go higher on bigger days like he did on Blue Grass Stakes Day. On Thursday, he had another winning day, so here’s his plays for Friday:
Races Nos. 1-2 (1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT)
SPECIAL $2 DAILY DOUBLE (cost $12)
Race 1: #6 Allocate (4-1 morning line) and #7 Mrs. Nushi (3-1)
Race 2: #1 Kivalina (4-1), #2 Frippet (4-1) and #9 Pharoah’s Song (7-2)
Race No. 2 (1:32 p.m. ET/10:32 a.m. PT
I like an Exacta Box of #1 Kivalina (4-1 morning line), #2 Flippet (4-1) and #9 Pharoah’s Song (7-2). Wager: $2 Exacta Box (cost $12)”
Race No. 5 (3:08 p.m. ET/12:08 p.m. PT)
Mr. Ed’s pick is #8 Only Kidding (4-1 morning line). “Cheap son of Into Mischief has a few in-the-money finishes from starts for trainer Brendan Walsh, who tries filly in first turf sprint. Works are only so-so and lackluster jock Irad Ortiz Jr. retains mount. All kidding aside, I really like her chances. Wager: $5 Win and Place; Box 8/9,10,11 Exacta Box. (cost $22)”
Race No. 6 (3:40 p.m. ET/12:40 p.m. PT)
Mr. Ed’s BEST BET OF DAY is #3 Mouffy (8-5 morning line). “Solid package of sire (Uncle Mo), trainer (Jonathan Thomas) and jockey Luis Saez = my choice. Filly should be able to handle added distance. Wager: $20 to Win.”
Races Nos. 7-10 (4:12 p.m. ET/1:12 p.m. PT)
Mr. Ed likes the following $.50 Pick 4 (cost $45)
Race 7: 3,6,8,11,12
Race 8: 2,6,10
Race 9: 1,4
Race 10: 2,3,7
Race No. 7 (4:12 p.m. ET/1:12 p.m. PT)
My VALUE PLAY is #8 Making It (10-1 morning Line). “Excellent Show effort in debut on Tampa Bay Downs turf indicates late-blooming daughter of Orb has what it takes. Trainer George Weaver upgrades rider to Johnny Velazquez, turns her back and moves gal to dirt for $100,000 maiden test. If she can make it here … Wager: $5 Win and Place. (cost $10).”
TOTAL WAGERS ON FRIDAY: $121
TOTAL WAGERS THROUGH THURSDAY: $833
TOTAL MONEY CASHED: $941.10
TOTAL PROFIT: $108.10
