Tuesday’s sports betting action on the Fourth of July was highlighted by the full 15-game MLB card, except for those who bet on the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest at Coney Island in New York.

Of course, Joey Chestnut won for the 8th straight year and his 16th Mustard Bet title overall – though he had to wait out a 2-hour rain delay. Chestnut, who was the prohibitive -3000 favorite but as sure of a lock as you’ll ever see, ate 62 hot dogs and buns in the annual competition, though that was well Under the betting total of 73.5. Chestnut’s record was 76 in 2021.
Despite finishing Under and never approaching his record, Chestnut easily won as his nearest competitor, Geoffrey Esper, only ate 49 in the 10-minute contest.
Miki Sudo won her 9th straight women’s title, though she only ate 39.5 to finished Under her betting total of 43.5.

MLB: Favorites went 10-5 on the 4th of July with the biggest upsets by the Pirates (+220 in 9-7 win at Dodgers), A’s (+152 in 1-0, 10-inning win at Tigers) and Phillies (+130 in 3-1 win at Rays). Road teams led 9-6. Overs also went 9-6.
