Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Thursday, May 25th:
Miami Marlins (-125, 11) at Colorado Rockies
Charlie Blackmon is in the middle of a nice season for the Rockies. The 36-year-old is batting .276 with two triples, three homers, 12 doubles and 18 RBIs for Colorado this year. And we’re now turning to the veteran to have at least two total bases for us against Miami.
Blackmon has had at least two total bases in four of his last five games, and he has also gotten hits in 12 of his last 13. The 36-year-old is really seeing the ball well at the moment, and it’s hard not to like him to come through in a game with a total of 11.
Blackmon should also enjoy this matchup with lefty Braxton Garrett, who is 1-2 with a 4.60 ERA this season. Blackmon is actually 2 for 2 against the lefty in his career, and he has just been good against southpaws, in general. That’s not exactly normal for a lefty hitter, but that’s not for us to get to the bottom of. We’re simply backing him to have a nice game and love the play.
Bet: Blackmon Over 1.5 Total Bases (+110)
San Diego Padres (-190, 9.5) at Washington Nationals
In another game with a relatively high total, the Padres take on the Nationals on Thursday. Blake Snell will be taking the mound for San Diego in this one, and the lefty is 1-6 with a 5.40 ERA on the season. The 30-year-old has just never recaptured the form that made him a Cy Young-level pitcher earlier in his career, and that makes him a decent target for a batter prop.
One guy to keep an eye on tonight is Joey Meneses. The 31-year-old is batting .295 with two homers, 12 doubles and 24 RBIs this season, and he has been particularly hot in May. Meneses also happens to crush left-handed pitching, and he’s 3 for 6 in his career against Snell. With that in mind, this seems like a good spot to back him. And the plus-money odds don’t hurt.
Bet: Meneses Over 1.5 Total Bases (+120)
Oakland Athletics at Seattle Mariners (-250, 7.5)
JP Sears threw 6.0 innings of shutout ball against the Mariners on May 3rd, when he also struck out seven batters and gave up just four hits. It was his best performance of the entire year, and he has since given up two or fewer earned runs in two of his last three starts. So, Sears is in a nice little groove at the moment, and I like the 27-year-old to throw another 6.0 innings tonight.
The reality is that the Mariners have the fourth-highest strikeout rate in the league against lefties, and they’re also just 23rd in the league in wRC+ against southpaws. This team simply doesn’t get the job done against left-handed pitching, and we already saw Sears exploit that. Things could be a little tougher on the road, but asking him to record 18 outs really isn’t all that difficult.
Bet: Sears Over 17.5 Outs Recorded (+110)
