Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Monday, April 10:
Oakland Athletics at Baltimore Orioles (-170, 8.5)
This season, the Athletics have the fourth-highest strikeout rate in the league when facing right-handed pitching. The sample size is obviously very small, but the Athletics also happened to have the sixth-highest strikeout rate against righties in 2022. That makes it hard not to like Kyle Gibson to reach the five-strikeout mark tonight.
Gibson isn’t a pitcher that whiffs a ton of batters, but he is coming off a five-strikeout game in a win over the Texas Rangers on April 4th. The 35-year-old also had 10 strikeouts in his only start against the Athletics last year, so it isn’t hard to envision him dealing in this one. The reality is that this is an Oakland team that is near the bottom of the league in both wRC and wRC+. The Athletics really have no hitters that strike fear in opposing pitchers right now, so we’re counting on Gibson here.
Bet: Gibson Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-150)
Boston Red Sox at Tampa Bay Rays (-150, 8.5)
Nick Pivetta gave up only one earned run in his first start of the year, which was one in which he pitched 5.0 innings against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Pivetta does, however, have to go out and face the Rays now. Tampa Bay has been the best team in baseball this season, as the group is off to a 9-0 start.
The Rays are currently first in the league in wRC+ by a wide margin. Tampa Bay is also first in OBP, SLG, OPS and ISO. This offense is scorching hot right now, and it’s hard to envision them not scoring at least three runs on Pivetta here.
Tampa Bay is obviously bound to enter the loss column at some point in the near future, and it might even happen tonight. Who knows? But it’s hard to see this offense failing to scrape together a few runs in this friendly of a matchup. After all, Pivetta gave up 15 earned runs in 19.2 innings against the Rays last season.
Bet: Pivetta Over 2.5 Earned Runs Allowed (-105)
St. Louis Cardinals (-140, 11.5) at Colorado Rockies
Paul Goldschmidt is batting .333 with a homer and two RBIs to start this season, and he now faces a pitcher that he has absolutely crushed throughout his career. In 40 career at-bats against German Marquez, Goldschmidt has 17 hits, four doubles and four homers. With that said, it’s hard not to like him to reach two total bases tonight.
This game also happens to be in Colorado, so Goldschmidt will be hitting in the friendly confines of Coors Field. In his career, Goldschmidt is batting .329 with two triples, 17 homers, 23 doubles and 92 total hits in 72 games played. This is a ballpark that he is very comfortable in, so the stars are aligned for Goldschmidt to turn in a big game for St. Louis.
He’s also due for a little magic in this one, as his counting stats don’t match how well he is seeing the ball.
Bet: Goldschmidt Over 1.5 Total Bases (-125)
