Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Tuesday, May 23rd:
Texas Rangers (-165, 8) at Pittsburgh Pirates
Nathan Eovaldi is on fire for the Rangers coming into this meeting with the Pirates. On April 12th, the righty had a 6.32 ERA after getting shelled for six earned runs in 5.0 innings against the Kansas City Royals. But Eovaldi is now 5-2 with a 2.83 ERA on the season. He has given up just three earned runs in his last 33.2 innings on the hill, and he has recorded at least seven strikeouts in four of his last seven starts. The righty is just really dialed in right now, which is why we’re playing him to strike out seven against the Pirates.
Pittsburgh was scorching hot to start the season, but the team has cooled down significantly. And the Pirates weren’t striking out often early in the year, but they’re quickly up to 16th in the league in strikeout rate against righties. They should only continue to get worse in that regard after finishing with the third-highest strikeout rate against righties in MLB last season.
With this being a plus matchup for Eovaldi, it’s just hard to see him not coming through with an impressive outing. And the best way to back him to do that is by hoping for some strikeouts at plus-money odds.
Bet: Eovaldi Over 6.5 Strikeouts (+115)
St. Louis Cardinals (-135, 10.5) at Cincinnati Reds
Tonight’s meeting between the Cardinals and Reds has the second-highest total on the board, so this is a good spot to back some batter props. And one of the ones that I like a lot is for Nick Senzel to have at least two total bases. Although it’s a very small sample size, Senzel is batting .333 in 12 at-bats against Adam Wainwright. Wainwright also happens to have a lousy 5.74 ERA to start the year, and his stuff gets worse and worse as he continues to get older.
Senzel isn’t the type of guy to win these bets with one swing of the bat very often, but he’s coming off a two-hit game against St. Louis yesterday. And it really wouldn’t be surprising if he were to have another multi-hit game here. Although Senzel has cooled off a bit lately, this has been a career season for him thus far. And this matchup should get him pretty excited.
Bet: Senzel Over 1.5 Total Bases (+130)
Miami Marlins (-120, 11.5) at Colorado Rockies
Bryan De La Cruz is now batting .302 with five homers and 18 RBIs after having gone 4 for 4 in Monday’s 5-3 loss to the Rockies. He has been in a really nice groove lately, with multi-hit performances in five of his last nine games. Tonight, we’re playing De La Cruz to have at least one RBI against Colorado.
De La Cruz hasn’t been consistently driving in runs this season, but this game has a total of 11.5. With that said, there’s going to be some production coming from somewhere, and it feels like the right idea to play the hot hand on the team that is favored. De La Cruz was unlucky not to drive any runs in last night, as that should happen when you get four hits. We’re expecting some better fortune for the 26-year-old here.
Bet: De La Cruz Over 0.5 RBIs (+130)
