Here are our favorite MLB prop bets for Sunday, May 28th:
New York Mets (-145, 12.5) at Colorado Rockies
It can be stressful taking an over on an extremely high total, but it would be shocking if this doesn’t turn into a high-scoring game. Tylor Megill is taking the mound for the Mets in this one, and he comes into this game on the heels of a start in which he gave up four earned runs on six hits in only 3.2 innings of work against the Chicago Cubs. Megill has now seen his ERA rise from 1.64 on April 7th to 4.32 heading into this outing. He’s a guy that gives up a lot of hard contact, and that should come back to bite him at Coors Field. Meanwhile, Austin Gomber is starting for the Rockies, and he is yet another beatable starter. Gomber is just 4-4 with a 6.48 ERA on the season, and he has a 7.98 ERA at home. The Mets should really pound him in this start. This just feels like a game that should be high scoring early, leaving way too much for the bullpens to have to clean up.
Bet: Over 12.5 (-120)
Washington Nationals at Kansas City Royals (-110, 9)
The Royals are sending Daniel Lynch to the mound in this game. The lefty was just 4-13 with a 5.13 ERA last season, and this will be his first MLB appearance of the 2023 season. With that in mind, this game represents a good opportunity for some Nationals players to come through at the plate. And nobody on Washington has hit lefties harder than Lane Thomas this season. The 27-year-old is batting .356 with three doubles, four homers and 13 RBIs against southpaws on the year, so he has done a ton of damage against left-handed pitching. With that in mind, it’s hard not to like him to come through with at least two total bases here. Thomas has also enjoyed playing in afternoon games this season, so the stars are aligned for a big performance.
Bet: Thomas Over 1.5 Total Bases (+115)
Pittsburgh Pirates at Seattle Mariners (-135, 8.5)
Marco Gonzales is 4-1 on the season for the Mariners, but the lefty has an ERA of 5.68. So, while Gonzales is clearly capable of pitching at a very high level, he’s also prone to imploding on the mound. And this has the potential to be a rough start for him, as the Pirates are eighth in MLB in OBP and 10th in wRC+ against lefties this season. This Pittsburgh lineup can really make things difficult on southpaws, so I’m expecting the Pirates to produce at the plate against Gonzales in this spot. Meanwhile, Luis Ortiz is coming into this start after a stellar outing against the Texas Rangers. The 24-year-old pitched 7.2 innings of two-run ball in that game, and he has the stuff to give the Mariners some trouble. Ortiz is a top-10 prospect in Pittsburgh’s organization and Seattle hasn’t had the chance to face him. So, he should cruise through the first few innings and allow his teammates to go to work and build a lead for him.
Bet: Pirates ML (+115)
