Here are the MLB best bets today for October 20:
New York Mets at Los Angeles Dodgers (-148, 8.5)
8:08 p.m. ET (FS1)
The Dodgers are going with a bullpen game and the Mets are going with arguably their best starter, but we still see LA a big favorite in this one. The bullpen game angle did not work out for the Dodgers in Game 2, as Landon Knack got blasted in the second inning and the Mets led 6-0 before the Dodgers batted for a second time. Ryan Brasier gave up a solo shot to open up the game.
We’ll see if the Dodgers are willing to go back to Knack for bulk work in this one or not. With yesterday’s travel day and three blowouts in New York, the Dodgers have all of their best arms available. Brent Honeywell is now after throwing 67 pitches on Friday, but the Dodgers to work twice in this series are Blake Treinen (Wed/Thurs), Anthony Banda (Monday/Friday), Brasier (Monday/Wednesday), Honeywell (Monday/Friday), Edgardo Henriquez (Monday/Thursday). So nobody is compromised at all. We’ll see how Dave Roberts leverages all of those guys.
The Mets are in good shape with their bullpen as well, as nobody has pitched back-to-back days yet. That means we could see a quick hook for Sean Manaea if he struggles. He was the starter in Game 2 and walked four over five innings, but only allowed two hits. Thus far, Manaea has allowed six runs on 11 hits in 17 playoff innings.
Not knowing who will actually start for the Dodgers does make things a little tough from a betting standpoint. This looks like one of those good live betting games where you can get a feel for how guys are throwing and also see who is next in line to come out of the Dodgers bullpen. I hate to punt on the game like that, but there is minimal pregame equity with games like this that are going to be in a constant state of flux.
