8 p.m. ET: National League at American League (-120, 7.5)

In the 94th edition of the Midsummer Classic, the National League hands the ball to rookie righty phenom Paul Skenes (6-0, 1.90 ERA) and the American League counters with fellow righty Corbin Burnes (9-4, 2.43 ERA). This line opened with the American League listed as a -115 home favorite and the National League a +105 road dog. Sharps have quietly laid the chalk with the American League, driving the AL All Stars up from -115 to -120. The American League is receiving 43% of moneyline bets and 46% of moneyline dollars, signaling a sharp contrarian “low bets, higher dollars” bet split in their favor. The American League holds a 47-44-1 edge all time in the All Star Game, but has been particularly dominant this millennium, going 9-1 over the last ten All Star Games. The National League won last year’s game 3-2 to snap a 9-game win streak by the AL. Since 1997, the American League is 21-4-1 in the Midsummer Classic.

In terms of the total, sharps seem to be banking on a lower score game once again. The line opened at 8 and immediately got bet down to 7.5. Now the 7.5 is juiced to the under at -120, signaling a possible fall down to 7. In other words, we’ve seen a steady flow of smart money hit the under from open to current. The under is receiving 49% of bets but 66% of dollars, a sharp contrarian bet split indicating an undecided public but also heavy sharp action on the under. The under is 4-0 in the last four All Star Games, with final scores of 3-2, 3-2, 5-2 and 4-3. The under is 14-1-2 over the past 17 All Star Games. A big reason for the remarkable under trend is the way the All Star Games are played. Typically, we see two new pitchers every inning, which means batters never get a chance to get acclimated to their opposing pitchers. This leads to an advantage for the pitchers. As the old saying goes, “good pitching beats good hitting.”
