Thursday Best Bet Results
Thursday continued our trend of having a winning day with the family on our 3rd annual San Francisco trip, but we again had a losing day with our picks here.
We continued our tour of this great city as we spent most of the day at the Exploratorium, a science museum that’s educational but very interactive for not only kids but adults, too. It was also a reminder that there’s other things out there besides our isolated sports world.
I believe it’s important to keep that perspective as our slump continues to extend from our June swoon into this first week of July. It looked like we were going to end our skid with the Reds First 5 Innings +105 at the Nationals as the Reds led 1-0 heading into the bottom of the 5th inning, but the Nats rallied for 2 runs to deal us another loss. The Reds did rally to win 5-4 in 10 innings for those who are still betting our plays on the full-game money line.
That’s just the kind of thing that happens when you’re on a losing streak. In fact, regular reader David Allison Tweeted at us: “After losing that Reds game in the bottom of the 5th, probably time for a break.” My reply from my @ViewFromVegas Twitter account was “As I wrote last night, I’m looking forward to the All-Star Break as much as the players.”
The loss dropped our July record to a woeful 2-10 and -7.65 units, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page. As I’ve written often for the past few weeks, I trust most regular readers have backed off from my plays as I’ve been very transparent about how badly I’ve been scuffling. That’s human nature, which is also something I was reminded of over and over at the Exploratorium.
I’d also like to point out to critics who are complaining about “paying for these losing picks” that a VSiN subscription is about buying any one person’s picks (I’ve always said that readers shouldn’t follow anyone blindly, even me when I’ve been on winning streaks – heck, with so many of us giving our honest opinions on a daily basis, there’s bound to be some on hot streaks and others that are stone cold). It’s more about being part of the whole sports betting lifestyle and being exposed to all the great information to help us all make our daily decisions.
As I’ve also written, I’ve been doing this daily for close to 25 years, so I’m doing something right and not about to stop. Again, anyone who says they haven’t had a run like my recent slump is lying or hasn’t been betting long enough.
This too shall pass (forgive me for getting philosophical again, but it’s true).
Anyway, let’s get to Friday’s card.
MLB Friday Best Bet
Mariners First 5 Innings +100 at Astros: My “swagger/anti-swagger” plays have been a big part of my recent skid, but this is a mini anti-swagger spot for the Astros as they had their 4-game winning streak snapped on Thursday in a 5-1 loss to these same Mariners. I also don’t mind taking Seattle starter Luis Castillo (5-6, 3.05 ERA) vs. Houston’s Hunter Brown (6-5, 3.76 ERA). As I’ve said the past few days, I know some followers might say I should be making more picks to try and end my losing streak, but I don’t believe that would be responsible with the way “I’m not seeing the ball right now,” so I’ll stick to my one most likely winner.
Tuley’s Takes contest
I’ll be at the Rockies-Giants game on Friday night at Oracle Park here in San Francisco (first pitch 10:15 p.m. ET/7:15 p.m. PT here in the city by the bay, the city that rocks, the city that never sleeps). We’ll be sitting behind home plate though off to the side, so not visible on every pitch. Hopefully the camera will pan over at some point during the game. Let’s call this contest "Where’s Tuley?" I’ll buy dinner for 2 in Las Vegas for the first person who sees me on the broadcast (just dinner, you have to get to Vegas on your own) and Tweets a reply to me @ViewFromVegas with a description of my baseball cap and what else I’m wearing, so we have a time-stamp on the winning submission. This isn’t an official VSiN contest and comes out of my own pocket, so I reserve all rights to judge the winner and all decisions are final.
