Friday Best Bet Results
Friday was a long day of following the horse racing news in preparation of Saturday’s Kentucky Derby card while also betting on Friday’s races.
I woke up to the news that a fourth horse had scratched from this year’s Kentucky Derby and I had to rewrite my story on the field being reduced to 19 runners (we hope that’s it!). I was also on three radio shows throughout the day to talk about the Derby, plus appearing on the “VSiN Saturday Prep” show with Jeff Parles.
I also spent half the night handicapping and posting my “Team Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” column for Saturday’s races and now have to take my son to his school at 4 a.m. PT for a field trip. Yawn!
As for my sports Best Bets on Friday, I lost my top play on the 76ers +2 vs. the Celtics as they failed to cover in a 114-102 loss. At least I managed a slightly profitable day as I hit my other play on the Astros First 5 Innings +120 at the Mariners as the Astros jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the 3rd inning, still led 4-3 through 5 innings for our play to cash, and then went on to win 6-4 for those who played it that way.
Let’s get to Saturday’s sports betting plays (again, most of the day will be spent on the ponies). I don’t have any plays in the NBA or NHL on Saturday, just two MLB plays.
MLB Saturday Best Bets
Red Sox First 5 +120 at Phillies: I’m basically taking the team in the better current form as the Red Sox (20-14) are on a 7-game winning streak and shouldn’t be an underdog to the Phillies (15-18), who are on a 5-game skid. And even though Corey Kluber (1-4, 6.44 ERA) isn’t off to a good start, I’l still take him over Bailey Falter (0-5, 5.01 ERA).
Tigers First 5 +150 at Cardinals: I’m not the most thrilled to back the Tigers (14-17) with Spencer Turnbull (1-4, 6.84 ERA), but the Cardinals (10-23) are reeling with a 7-game losing streak and we see value in this line. Besides, the Tigers just took 2 of 3 from the Mets and won the series opener last night.
