Friday Best Bets results
Friday was a pretty fun day in and out of the Tuley’s Takes home office – except for our betting results.
Top MLB Resources:
I spent most of the day chauffeuring my son Maddux to and from marching band practice in advance of his freshman year of high school while signing up some proxy clients in the football contests Circa. Later, I took my wife to dinner at Benihana at the Westgate with my longtime horse racing friends, Noel Michaels and Mike Labriola. Older Daily Racing Form readers will remember Michaels and I both covering the National Handicapping Championship during the early years while Labriola is a tournament player of some renown. They’re in town because we’re all competing against each other in an NHC Qualifier at the Treasure Island racebook on Saturday and Sunday. They’re trying to earn their first seat to the national finals next March at the Horseshoe (formerly Bally’s) while I’m trying to earn my second seat.
The day ended with me doing my ATS Report for VSiN.com on Twitter @ViewFromVegas and replying to another friend, Scott Spreitzer, who went to see Smashing Pumpkins in concert. I wrote that while I was growing up in the Chicago suburb of Glendale Heights, Billy Corgan was a year behind me in “Glenside Baseball” (not affiliated with “Little League Baseball” though not sure I knew it at the time and that our league wasn’t eligible for the Little League World Series!) and at Glenbard North High School.
Small world.
Anyway, we both grew up as die-hard Cubs fans (note: I’ve always felt that being a Cubs fan prepared me to be a sports bettor because the lovable losers taught me to bet with my head and not my heart).
Of course, my head hasn’t been doing too well picking winners this summer as I went 0-2 Friday with my First 5 Innings plays on the Rangers at the Padres and Angels at the Blue Jays as they both also lost if you bet them in the First 3 or full-game moneylines.
Our official First 5 plays went 0-2 to drop us to a dismal 18-33-5 in July for a net loss of $1,170 based on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page.
Let’s go with two more F5 plays on Friday’s full 15-game card, and we find ourselves going back to Chicago.
Saturday MLB Best Bets
White Sox First 5 Innings -105 vs. Guardians: The White Sox have been the White Sux lately, but we’re playing them because they’re in a “swagger” spot after snapping a 6-game losing streak on Friday with their 3-0 victory.
Cubs First 5 Innings +100 at Cardinals: Before thinking I’m being a homer for picking both Chicago teams (something I don’t think I’ve ever done in any MLB betting column I’ve ever written), I first want to say that while I did say I’m grew up a die-hard Cubs fan, I’ve always been reluctant to bet on them, so I’m sure I’m being objective. Besides, this is more of a play against St. Louis starter Adam Wainwright (3-4, 7.31 ERA). Why should he be favored? Also, I know I’m not being a homer because – as a Cubs fan – my least-favorite team is the Sox, yet I made them my top play.
