Saturday Best Bet Results
Saturday was a loooog day as Team Tuley drove back from our week-long San Francisco/Fourth of July vacation in the family truckster for 10 hours.

Holiday road, indeed (that’s that last time I’ll be recycling that joke for a while).
I had to follow the action in the sports world from my iPhone. We arrived home after 10 p.m. PT and I was able to Tweet out the MLB results for the day, including the Tigers pulling the biggest upset with their combined no-hitter of the Blue Jays. But then I crashed hard before waking back up early Sunday morning to file this column (mea culpa for the delay for those who missed it with their morning coffee) back East.
I lost my lone MLB bet on the Phillies First 5 Innings +100 at the Marlins as Ranger Suarez gave up 3 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning and the Marlins wound up leading 4-3 after 5 innings on the way to a 5-3 victory.
The silver lining is that I didn’t go crazy on plays as I wrote “I’m not too high on too many dogs on Saturday” in yesterday’s column and chalk ended up going 10-4 with one pick-’em. I’m also glad I invoked the “dog-or-pass” strategy with the other plays I considered as the Rockies failed to cover the First 5 at the Giants (and lost the game), though the Diamondbacks did push the First 5 vs. the Pirates and went on to win the game (though they closed as the favorite and I would have passed anyway, but maybe some followers liked that play).
However, I doubt many did with my recent slump as our June swoon has continued in July with a record of 3-11 and -7.65 units, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page. Again, hopefully we fare better after the All-Star Break as football season can’t get here soon enough.
But first let’s find some plays for Sunday, and we’re even turning to the WNBA on MLB’s last day before the break.
WNBA Sunday Best Bet
Minnesota Lynx +14 vs. Las Vegas Aces: I’ve been following the WNBA from afar the early part of the season, especially as underdogs have been doing well. I haven’t been tracking it every day like I do the other sports, but other sources have them hitting around 55%. I’m jumping in on Sunday as the Aces are in an “anti-swagger” spot after having their 9-game winning streak snapped on Friday (and losing for just the 2nd time in 18 games). We’ll fade them in this letdown spot, plus we get the Lynx at home and playing well on a 5-game winning streak.
MLB Sunday Best Bet
TIgers First 5 Innings +105 vs. Blue Jays: This is “mini-anti-swagger” play against the Blue Jays as they had a 4-game winning streak snapped as they were no-hit by the Tigers Saturday in a 2-0 loss. Hopefully it was a confidence-building win for Detroit and they weren’t out too late celebrating. The Tigers send out Tarik Skubal, who has just 1 start this season and threw 4 no-hit innings with 6 strikeouts on July 4 (though it was against the A’s, so let’s not get too excited about seeing back-to-back combined no-nos).
Nationals First 5 Innings +0.5 +105 vs. Rangers: With the way I’ve been scuffling in MLB, I might as well go with the WNBA with my top play, but I’m still playing these First 5 Inning picks. The Nationals are in a “mini-swagger” spot after snapping a 5-game losing streak Saturday with an 8-3 win vs. the Rangers. Patrick Corbin (5-10, 5.13 ERA) is having another bad year (which is why this is my No. 3 play), but I’m hoping he can show the form when he threw 7 shutout innings against the Mariners two starts ago on June 28.
