Saturday Best Bet recaps
Saturday was a pretty fun day in the Tuley’s Takes home office, though we ended up losing overall.
Top MLB Resources:
After Friday’s 3-0-1 record coming out of the MLB All-Star Break (in which we personally crushed it with round-robins, and hope our loyal followers did the same despite our recent slump, even if for lower amounts), we went 0-2 with our only sports plays on Saturday as we lost on the Diamondbacks First 5 Innings +135 at the Blue Jays and Guardians First 5 +120 at the Rangers.
The 0-2 mark dropped us back to 9-16-1 overall so far in July for a net loss of $470 based on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page, though that doesn’t reflect our unofficial round-robin profits, which is fine by us as long as our regular readers know the score.
We personally cut our losses a little on the ponies, including our lone play of the day in our “Team Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” column as Chick’s Shadow ran a game second in Gulfstream Park’s 8th race and paid a juicy $15 to Place. Our second play of the day was scratched, which we also view as a money-saver. There’s an old racetrack saying that goes: “they never scratch a loser!”
As for Saturday’s unofficial sports betting leans, we also lost with the Rockies vs. the Yankees to kill all our round-robin plays on the day, though the lone silver lining was the Tigers First 5 coming through at +180 at the Mariners.
Let’s try to get back on the winning track as I have three (hopefully) live First 5 Inning underdogs that we’ll also be using in a round-robin and shooting for the bonus payoff if we’re able to nail the three-team dog parlay (along with the three two-teamers!).
MLB Sunday Best Bets
Dodgers First 5 Innings +105 at Mets: It’s not often we get the Dodgers at plus-money and can’t pass them up on Sunday as they go for a series sweep of the Mets. The Dodgers are also on a 6-game winning streak dating back to before the All-Star Break. I know we’re going against New York’s Max Scherzer (8-3, 4.31 ERA), but L.A. rookie Bobby Miller (5-1, 4.50 ERA) has been a pleasant addition to the Dodgers’ rotation since being called up in May.
Angels First 5 Innings +110 vs. Astros: I was happy to fade the Angels on Friday night, though we only got a push in the first 5 innings, but I like them in this “semi-swagger” spot as they snapped a 6-game losing streak (albeit split by the All-Star Break) with a confidence-boosting rally to beat Astros 13-12 late last night.
Tigers First 5 Innings +150 at Mariners: I don’t what has gotten into the Detroit pitching staff since the combined no-hitter last Saturday, but they’ve allowed just 8 runs in the last 4 games (2 runs per game), and 4 of them were in the lone loss in this stretch as the starters have been even stronger. We’ll take them again here at a juicy plus-price with Reese Olson (1-2, 4.05 ERA) looking like closer to a pick-’em proposition vs. Seattle with Bryce Miller (5-3, 3.97 ERA).
