Sunday Best Bet recaps
Sunday was a pretty full day for yours truly, Dave Tuley, starting early in the day with the final round of the British Open, a full MLB card, our regular weekly appearance on “The Greg Peterson Experience” and wrapping up our MAC preview for the VSiN College Football Betting Guide (due out a week from Thursday, Aug. 3).
Top MLB Resources:
We felt good about our Best Bet of the day on the Pirates First 5 Innings +110 at the Angels as the Pirates jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. Unfortunately, Shohei Ohtani homered in the bottom of the 1st to tie it and the Angels scored again in the 2nd. We officially lost our bet after the Pirates didn’t score in the top of the 5th inning, but then the Angels ran up the score to lead 6-1 after 5 and held on to win 7-5, so you lost no matter how you played the Pirates.
The Guardians-Phillies game was actually more frustrating. The Guardians led 3-1 after 3 innings, so I wish we had bet it that way as the Phillies rallied to tie the game 3-3 through 5 to push our officially posted play. The Phillies went on to win 8-5, so the First 3 was the way to go there.
So, our First 5 plays went 0-1-1 to drop to 16-27-3 in July for a net loss of $785 based on $100 flat bets, according to the VSiN Pro Picks page. Again, the streaky nature of our plays has lended itself to having parlays or round-robins being more profitable (or cutting losses). We’ll see if that continues.
Let’s try to get back on the winning track as I have two MLB plays on Monday.
Monday MLB Best Bets
Twins First 5 Innings +100 vs. Mariners: Greg Peterson and I both liked the Twins on the show last night. The Mariners are on a “mini-anti-swagger spot” after having a 3-game winning streak snapped. The stats don’t bear it out, but I like Kenta Maeda (2-5, 5.10 ERA) to keep it close early.
Blue Jays First 5 Innings +105 at Dodgers: We didn’t get to this game on the show, but I’m still using it here and on the VSiN Pro Picks page. The Blue Jays can score with the Dodgers, and we get Jose Berrios (8-7, 3.39 ERA) vs. Michael Grove (2-2, 6.40 ERA). Note: I’m also interested in playing the Rockies and Tigers, but their opponents (Nationals and Giants) didn’t have starting pitchers listed overnight and we didn’t have any First 5 lines to play, though Circa did have the Rockies +121 and Tigers +127 on the full-game moneylines.
