Friday was another day doing some chores and waiting around for the sports betting action at night. I wish more MLB teams would play afternoon day games. I’m being nostalgic about when the Cubs only played day games at home, so it was nice to see them playing the Marlins o n Friday afternoon even though I didn’t have a bet on the game.
Maybe I should have as I couldn’t have done worse with my two MLB wagers on Friday night as I lost with the Padres 1st 5 %plussign% 125 vs. the Dodgers and Pirates 1st 5 %plussign% 140 vs. the Orioles as both my teams failed to score in the 1st 5 innings and the Padres only managed 1 run in an 8-1 loss at the Dodgers and the Pirates were shut out 1-0 by the Orioles. It reminded me of a few weeks ago when I was in a slump and couldn’t find any teams to get me any runs. I hope that trend doesn’t continue.
Let’s recap the rest of Friday’s (full-game) betting results and look for more 1st 5 inning opportunities on Saturday’s MLB card. Note: I’ll also have horse racing picks today in my “Team Tuley’s Thoroughbred Takes” column later Saturday morning.
Friday’s recaps
Top MLB Resources:
MLB: Faves went 10-4 with the upsets by the Angels (%plussign% 172 in 4-3 win at Mariners in 10 inn.), Cardinals (%plussign% 140 in 4-3 win vs. Yankees), Braves (%plussign% 117 in 9-6 win at Mets) and Twins (%plussign% 106 in 6-5 win vs. Blue Jays). Home teams went 8-6. Overs 6-5-3 with pushes in WAS-PHI (9), TB-DET (8) and LAA-SEA (7) games.
More MLB: Faves lead 946-626 SU (60.2 percent) on the season with 25 pick-'ems (faves usually win around 59 percent; still ahead of pace; gap had been narrowing but now back over 60 percent). Home teams lead just 836-761 (52.3 percent, but usually closer to 54 percent). Unders lead 785-732-77 (51.7 percent).
Saturday’s Takes
Cardinals 1st 5 %plussign% -110 or better vs. Yankees: I considered making this bet on Friday (the Cardinals organization is amazing how it contends every year and is tied for 1st in the NL Central), but couldn’t pull the trigger, which was fine as the 1st 5 bet lost though the Cardinals did rally for a 4-3 win. But I like them Saturday with Jordan Montgomery getting his first start for St. Louis vs. his former team. Hopefully he was paying attention at practice and in games to know how to pitch vs. the Yankees’ potent lineup. I also have no problem fading NY starter Domingo German. I also like the Royals/Lynch 1st 5 %plussign% 110 vs. the Red Sox/Eovaldi and also considered the Reds/Lodolo 1st 5 vs. the Brewers/Asby and the Twins/Bundy 1st 5 %plussign% 110 vs. the Blue Jays for those looking for more action. Personally, as I head to sleep early Saturday morning, I’m still debating whether to bet more on my top 2 selections or diversify the portfolio with more plays.
Good luck today (and every day!).
