Thursday Betting Recaps

Welcome to our daily recap of the sports betting results from the night before.
In case you missed it Wednesday, we’ve started splitting our “Tuley’s Takes” columns into two separate pieces: this FREE article where I recap last night’s betting action and update league-wide ATS stats in the various sports, and then another one where I give me Best Bets on today’s wagering menu.
Links to both articles should be found on the VSiN.com home page, though I advise my regular readers to also bookmark my dedicated page at https://www.vsin.com/news/dave-tuley-columns/.
So, let’s get to my recaps from last night’s betting action, though I tried to capsulize the biggest betting news of the night on my Twitter account @ViewFromVegas: “Clippers’ +7.5 cover in 129-124 loss vs. the Suns is the 1st game this #NBA postseason with a team covering in a loss; we’re grading SU winners at 17-1-1 ATS as 76ers (-5) pushed in 102-97 win at Nets, though some will argue SU winners are still undefeated at 19-0 ATS if you got 76ers -4.5 & Suns -2.5.”

As we always try to point out, I grade my betting recaps using my ViewFromVegas Consensus Closing Lines using the average lines from all the Vegas books on the Don Best Sports screen as that’s when oddsmakers, bookmakers, early bettors, sharp bettors, late bettors and the public have all had their say on where the line should end up. Obviously, some will have different results based on the lines they were able to get, but this is the best way I know to give a comprehensive of the daily betting results in the marketplace.

NBA: Faves went 3-0 and 2-1 ATS with the Suns beating the Clippers 129-124 late Thursday, but the Clippers covered after closing as 7.5-point home dogs (went Over betting total of 225 points). The 76ers (-5) pushed in their 102-97 win vs. the Nets (Under 210) and Warriors (-6.5) beat Kings 114-97 (Under 241). Road teams 2-1 but home teams led 2-0-1 ATS. Unders 2-1.

More NBA: Faves improved to 13-6 SU and 12-7 ATS in the 1st round. Home teams dipped to 13-6 SU but improved to 14-4-1 ATS. Unders improved to 11-8 (15-10 if including play-in tournament). The “zig-zag theory” (aka “loser of the last") went 1-1-1 ATS with the Warriors covering and the Suns failing to cover (and Nets pushing) after losing previous games and still stands at .500 at 5-5-1 ATS .

NHL: Home faves went 3-1 (2nd night in a row) with the upset by the Rangers (+115 in 5-1 win at the Devils). The Maple Leafs (-185 in 7-2 win vs. Lightning), Avalanche (-230 in 3-2 win vs. Kraken) and Golden Knights (-155 in 5-2 win vs. Jets) won as chalk. Overs led 3-1. In the first round, faves/dogs & home/road teams are both now tied at 8-8. Overs improved to 10-6.

MLB: Faves went 5-1 with Dodgers-Cubs closing pick-’em. Thursday’s lone upset was by the Rockies (+200 in 5-0 win at the Phillies). Road teams led 4-3. Overs 4-3. On the season, faves lead 174-107 with 5 PKs. Road teams improved lead to 149-137. Overs improved to 148-126-12 (54%).
