Monday was a long day in the Tuley’s Takes home office as we started work early on the NFL Week 13 card (see the final product in my regular column in Point Spread Weekly) while waiting for Monday Night Football.
It wasn’t worth the wait for yours truly as we lost our best bet on a parlay with the Seahawks %plussign% 1 and Under 46.5. The Under was a pretty easy winner, but Russell Wilson continued to struggle and the Washington Football Team pulled out a 17-15 victory. I guess I should have gone the teaser route like I mentioned in yesterday’s column as that ended up a winner, though I’m wondering if any readers opted for a teaser using the Football Team after the line flipped to Seahawks -1.5 during the day. The 6-point teaser won no matter which way you went, though only the Under covered if teasing the total.
Like I said, I’m already moving on to NFL Week 13, but let’s recap all of Monday’s betting action, including updating the season-long NFL stats with dogs, road teams and Unders still leading the way. We also have a Contest Corner update with Circa Survivor down to 28 live entries playing for the $6 million jackpot, plus new leaderboards in Circa Sports Million III and the Westgate SuperContest.
And, last but not least, we have what we hope is a live dog on Tuesday with a team that’s rarely getting points.
Monday’s recaps
NFL: Washington Football Team held off Seahawks 17-15 on Monday Night Football to wrap up NFL Week 12. Washington did it after closing as a 1-point home underdog as the game stayed Under the betting total of 46.5). Faves went 8-7 SU in Week 12, but dogs led 8-7 ATS while home teams went 9-6 SU and 10-5 ATS and Unders went 8-7.
More NFL: On the season, faves lead 104-72-1 SU with 3 games closing pick-’em, but dogs lead 100-76-1 (56.8 percent). Road teams still lead 91-85-1 SU with 3 neutral-site games and 101-75-1 ATS (57.4 percent). Unders lead 100-78-2 (56.2 percent) while primetime Unders (3-0 this week) now lead 19-16-1 (primetime Unders 18-8-1, 69.2 percent, since 1-8 start).
NBA: Faves went 5-4 SU, but dogs went 6-3 ATS. Upsets were by the Nuggets (%plussign% 3 at Heat), Cavaliers (%plussign% 6.5 at Mavericks), Spurs (%plussign% 3 vs. Wizards) and Pelicans (%plussign% 7 at Clippers). Magic (%plussign% 14 at 76ers) and Pacers (%plussign% 4 at Timberwolves) covered in SU losses. Overs went 5-4, but Unders still lead 174-137-3 (55.9 percent) on the season.
NHL: Faves/dogs split 2-2 Monday with the upsets by the Coyotes (%plussign% 260 in 1-0 win at Jets) and Canucks (%plussign% 107 in 2-1 win at Canadiens). Kraken (-140 in 7-4 win at Sabres) and Flames (-145 in 2-1 win vs. Penguins) won as faves with Kraken the only chalk to cover the -1.5 puck line on the night. Road teams went 3-1 and Unders also went 3-1.
CBB: No. 3 Gonzaga held off Tarleton State 64-55 after only leading 26-25 at halftime and being tied with less than 10 minutes to play. Gonzaga never got close to covering as a 32-point home favorite. Most books didn’t offer a money line on the game as an outright was pretty much inconceivable, but Tarleton State was %plussign% 2500 (25-1) on the money line at the South Point in Las Vegas.
Contest Corner
Circa Survivor is down to 28 live entries as 2 more were eliminated on Monday Night Football with the Seahawks. Sunday's eliminations were on the Eagles (6), Panthers (2), Clippers (1) and the Texas (1). The 28 Survivors had the Patriots (12), Bengals (5), 49ers (5), Ravens (4), Dolphins (1) and Falcons (1).
CircaSportsMillion leader JJarvis117 went just 1-4 in NFL Week 12, but he stayed in the lead despite dropping to 43-17 (71.7 percent) on the season as a lot of contestants had a tough week (the Top 5 Most-Selected Teams also went 1-4). Berta-3, CALABASAS WISE GUY and FJ1925 are 1.5 points behind in a three-way tie for second place at 41-18-1 (69.5 percent).
SuperContest has a new leader as LITOFSKY CLAN went 4-1 In NFL Week 12 to improve to 40-18-2 (69 percent) and take a 1-point lead over the trio of THE DOGERS, HandS CO and FREE TIM TEBOW. SuperContest Gold (the $5,000 winner-take-all version of the SC) leader CALABASAS WISE GUY went 4-1 to improve to 40-18-2 (69 percent) and extend his lead to 2.5-points over THE PROGNASTICATOR 2 with six weeks left.
Tuesday’s Take
Warriors %plussign% 2.5 at Suns: I normally don’t “step in front of a train” like the Suns, who are on a 16-game winning streak, but we’re getting the Warriors (still the best team in the NBA at 18-2 while the Suns are 17-3) plus more than a bucket. The Suns are obviously tough at home, but Golden State has been road Warriors, covering their last four road games. This also looks like a statement game for the Warriors, who haven’t needed much motivation to get up for their opponents no matter who they are as the Warriors have gone 21-14-1 ATS over their last 26 games. Shop for the best number as the Warriors are %plussign% 3 at Circa Sports in Nevada as well as some other books.
Good luck today (and every day!).
