Brent Musburger isn't the first retiree to head to the warmth of the desert following a long and distinguished career.
He is among the few to immediately help start up a new company when he got here.
Friday afternoon at the South Point Hotel, Casino and Spa, Musburger and his partners in VSiN, the Vegas Stats & Information Network, unveiled the company's first-of-its-kind broadcast studio in the heart of the casino.
"Can't tell you how much I enjoyed my retirement," Musburger said as he opened his remarks Friday. He called his last game for ESPN Tuesday night in Lexington, Ky.
Before a packed crowd, interested media and distinguished guests, Musburger held court.
"I want everybody in the room to know, flat out, this does not happen at all, without Michael Gaughan's support of this endeavor," Musburger said of South Point's owner.
"And, of course, my boys in the desert I always talked about on the air. People thought maybe they were fictional characters," Musburger said of VSiN's Chris Andrews, Vinny Magliulo and Jimmy Vaccaro, as well as Jimmy's brother Sonny.
Musburger joked about convincing Andrews to move the South Point book's Super Bowl line to the Patriots by 3½. And then it was time to drop the curtain and for Musburger to make good use of his signature line.
"What I want to do is show you the finest studio that I have ever had the pleasure of being able to work in. Ladies and gentlemen, here we go … You are looking live at the unveiling of the new VSiN, Vegas Stats and Information Network! … I want everybody to take a peek!"
The studio, just steps away from South Point’s sports book, gives VSiN the ability to serve you breaking news like no one else. We will broadcast its first show Sunday before Super Bowl LI between the New England Patriots and Atlanta Falcons.
