What happens with Stetson Bennett in the 2023 NFL Draft?
Stetson Bennett enters the 2023 NFL Draft after a tremendous career as the quarterback for the University of Georgia. Bennett, who started his career as a walk-on, won back-to-back national championships to close out his time in Athens. Now, the 25-year-old is one of the most interesting names in this draft class. In fact, Bennett is so interesting that he’s the only player in the draft that DraftKings Sportsbook is allowing you to bet on the exact round they’ll be selected. With that in mind, let’s dive into Bennett’s game and try to pin down where he might be picked — if he gets picked at all.

Stetson Bennett Scouting Report
Bennett threw for 4,127 yards with 27 touchdowns and only seven interceptions last year, and he also added 205 yards and 10 scores on the ground. The senior also happened to deliver in big games, as he threw for 398 yards with three touchdowns and only one pick in the College Football Playoff semifinals against Ohio State last year — and also added a rushing touchdown in that game. He followed it up by throwing for 304 yards with four touchdowns and no picks in the College Football Playoff national championship against TCU, while also rushing for 39 yards and two scores.
Bennett’s strengths as a quarterback are his ability to make quick decisions, deliver the ball accurately and take off and run when nothing’s there. However, nothing that he does truly jumps off the screen when you watch his tape. And it’s incredibly hard to give him credit when we know that he played with an elite supporting cast from top to bottom. Bennett was also a 25-year-old man playing amongst boys. And at 5-foot-11 and 192 pounds, he’s small for a traditional pocket passer.
With all of that considered, Bennett would likely be happy to land a backup job in the NFL. His winning pedigree and proven leadership would make him a good guy to have in the locker room — although he did get arrested for public intoxication earlier in 2023. There’s probably not much upside from here, but perhaps we’ll be wrong about that. After all, nobody expected a walk-on to start games and win two national titles for the biggest brand in college football.

Considering the consensus amongst draft analysts is that Bennett would be lucky to be a backup quarterback — and is probably best served as a third-string option — you’re looking at a guy that will be drafted very late, if at all. So, you should probably be targeting Bennett to go in either the sixth or seventh rounds. Perhaps the former is the better option given his pedigree and name recognition. It isn’t hard to envision a scenario in which an old soul in a front office falls in love with his story.
