Every week, VSiN will be doing an in-depth dive on the week’s Monday Night Football game. In Week 15, that game features the Seattle Seahawks hosting the Philadelphia Eagles at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington. The Eagles were blown out by the Dallas Cowboys last week, while the Seahawks lost by 12 against the San Francisco 49ers. Both of these teams are struggling entering this game, but they’re both capable of flipping the switch immediately. With that out of the way, keep reading for our Eagles vs. Seahawks preview, picks and player props.

How To Watch Eagles vs. Seahawks

Eagles vs. Seahawks Spread

The Eagles have been a mess defensively over the last couple of weeks, as they have allowed at least 33 points in each of their last three. Opponents have been doing whatever they want against this Philadelphia defense, running and passing with great success. So, I don’t really see a scenario in which the Eagles will shut down a Seahawks offense that is still very explosive. It does help that the Eagles could be going up against a banged-up version of Geno Smith. He was considered very unlikely to play up until right before kickoff. However, it seems as though he’ll be out there. That said, I like the Seahawks’ chances of making some explosive plays in the passing game here. Then, the question is whether Seattle is capable of slowing down Philadelphia’s offense.

The Seahawks have been diced up defensively over the last three weeks, so they’re not too different than the Eagles. However, Seattle should be fired up playing this game at home, and playing on Monday means that the Seahawks have had some time to get ready for this game. That’s crucial for a coach like Pete Carroll, as he is a smart week-to-week planner and knows how to get his guys fired up.

One thing to keep an eye on here is the play of Jalen Hurts — if he’s able to battle through his illness and play. Seattle is just 27th in the NFL in Defensive DVOA against the pass this season, but Hurts hasn’t looked like himself lately. He’ll now be going into a tough environment hoping to turn things around, and I have my doubts about whether or not he can do that. It also doesn’t help that it’s supposed to be chilly and raining. In a sloppier game, I’d trust Seattle to get the job done at home. And that’s especially the case of Marcus Mariota plays.

I also find it hard to ignore that Seattle is 22-9 straight up and 21-10 against the spread as a home underdog under Carroll. The Seahawks are also 54-28-4 ATS when facing teams that allow at least 350 total yards per game under Carroll, speaking to how dangerous Seattle is against teams that can’t consistently get stops. This team is at its best when it’s being counted out in this building. The Seahawks also happen to be 13-4 SU and 10-6-1 ATS on Monday nights under Carroll, so his teams play well under the lights — and with the extra preparation time.

Eagles vs. Seahawks Total

It isn’t surprising that this game has a relatively high total, as these defenses have been all out of sorts lately. However, after four straight losses, I’d expect the Seahawks to try and get back to playing a physical brand of football here. That doesn’t mean that Smith will be passing up on deep shots throughout this one, but I do think the Seahawks will try to establish the run and keep the Eagles offense off the field. That should play a big role in potentially keeping this Under, as will the weather. However, I also don’t think Hurts will be able to light up this Seahawks defense the way other quarterbacks have in recent weeks. That would also play into the hands of Under bettors.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Under is 28-14 when Carroll-coached teams are coming off two or more losses in a row. That supports the fact that he’ll want to have his team go out and play a slow, physical game.

Eagles vs. Seahawks Player Props

DK Metcalf Over 61.5 Receiving Yards (-114 – Play To Over 64.5)

I think the Seahawks will find a way to run the ball efficiently in this game, but I also think Metcalf will make a splash at some point. The 25-year-old has had at least 62 receiving yards in three of his last five games, and he has also done so in seven of the 12 games he has played this year. Metcalf’s big play potential just makes it hard not to like him to hit these low Overs, as he has had a reception of at least 30 yards in seven games this season. That nearly accounts for half of what he’d need to cash this play, and he is facing an extremely soft secondary. So, look for Metcalf to come down with at least one deep ball and hit this.

Eagles vs. Seahawks Prediction

This is another primetime game that I’m actually going to play as one of my Week 15 best bets. I like the home team with the points in this spot, and I also think there’s a great chance Seattle wins this outright. The Seahawks desperately need this game in order to make the playoffs, and they’re getting the Eagles at the right time. Philadelphia had some good luck early in the season, but the team is unraveling a bit down the stretch. The secondary is a real problem right now and the Seahawks have the vertical passing game to make them pay.
