The Chicago Bears routed the New England Patriots 33-14 on Monday Night Football to wrap up NFL Week 7 after closing as 8.5-point road underdogs and %plussign% 330 on the money line.
The Patriots were a popular play for bettors as they opened around -7 at several sportsbooks and were bet to -9 at some spots. In addition, a lot of books also had liability on them in parlays and teasers from Sunday’s games. According to the VSiN Betting Splits page, 58% of the bets and 59% of the money were on the Patriots at DraftKings. The numbers were even higher on the money line to just win straight-up as 79% of the bets and 80% of the money were on Patriots around -410 on the ML.
After forcing a three-and-out on the Patriots’ first series with starting QB Mac Jones returning from an ankle injury, the Bears opened the scoring with a Cairo Santos 42-yard field goal. After another New England three-and-out, Chicago QB Justin Fields (who was taken No. 11 in the 2021 NFL Draft, four spots ahead of Jones) led the Bears on a 7-play, 56-yard TD that he capped off with a 3-yard TD run for a 10-0, first-quarter lead.
After Jones threw an interception on his third fruitless series, he was replaced by fourth-round pick Bailey Zappe, who had led the Pats to two straight wins in Jones’ absence. Zappe looked like he was going to be the story of the night as he electrified the home fans with two TD drives, including a 30-yard TD pass to Jakobi Meyers and a 43-yard pass to DeVante Parker to set up Rhamondre Stevenson’s 4-yard TD run to take a 14-0 lead with 6:04 left in the first half.
However, the Bears responded with a 25-yard TD pass from Fields to RB Khalil Herbert and a Santos 23-yard FG to lead 20-14 at halftime and then shut down Zappe the rest of the way (including two INTs) and coasted to the 33-14 victory.
Favorites still went 9-5 SU in NFL Week 7 (outright upsets were by the Panthers, Commanders, Giants, Seahawks and Bears), but faves and dogs split 7-7 ATS. Home teams also went 9-5 SU and ATS. Over/Unders also split at 7-7.
On the season, faves dropped to 63-42-1 SU on the season with two games closing pick-’em, but dogs improved to 59-44-3 ATS (57.3%). Home teams lead 58-47-1 SU with two neutral-site games in London, but road teams improved to 54-49-3 ATS (52.4%). Unders dipped to 63-44-1 (58.9%) overall, primetime Unders dipped to 14-8 (63.6%) on Thursday, Sunday and Monday nights.
