Jets vs. Raiders Spread
This week’s meeting between the Jets and Raiders comes at a great time, as everybody was clamoring for another week of New York in primetime after that stellar performance against Los Angeles in Week 9. This obviously isn’t a game that will be pretty to watch, and I imagine there won’t be too many people that are excited about it. However, I do think this one presents a good opportunity for bettors to make money. And you do it by simply backing the home team.
Over the last three seasons, the Jets are 1-8 against the spread when coming off back-to-back games with a turnover margin of -1 or worse. New York also happened to lose those games by an average of 10.5 points per game. This Jets squad tends to spiral when the going gets tough. That might not have been the case with Aaron Rodgers under center, but this is a Zach Wilson team for the third season in a row. And until New York makes a change at the quarterback spot, I just don’t see how you can bet on them — especially on the road.
There’s no denying that this Jets team is borderline special defensively, as New York is currently sixth in the league in Defensive DVOA. However, the Jets are only 21st in the league when it comes to stopping the run, so the Raiders might be able to get Josh Jacobs going here. But even if they can’t, I still don’t see how this game will go New York’s way. Being a great team defensively is nice, but you have to score points in order to win football games. And New York has scored just 19 points over the last two weeks, despite having faced mediocre defenses.
The Raiders might not be the most trustworthy offense in the world, and this matchup will present some problems for rookie quarterback Aidan O’Connell. But Las Vegas is coming off a 30-6 romping of the New York Giants last week. This team has a whole new energy with Antonio Pierce having replaced Josh McDaniels as the organization’s new head coach. In seeing comments from the Raiders over the last few weeks, these guys really seem to love Pierce — and clearly were sick of playing for McDaniels. Now, Las Vegas is likely thinking about making a push for a wild card spot in the AFC, but this is a game the team needs to win in order for that to be a reality.
Overall, I just don’t see Wilson and the Jets getting much going in the passing game here, especially considering the Raiders are a top 15 defense in DVOA when it comes to defending the pass. And while I’m not expecting Las Vegas to light it up offensively, I do think O’Connell is a smart quarterback and will move the ball without making mistakes. I can’t say the same about the starter on the road team, especially after New York head coach Robert Saleh told Michael Kay that he can’t come up with any good reasons for why the Jets haven’t turned to Trevor Siemian.
Jets vs. Raiders Total
While this is a meeting between two struggling offenses, it is also a matchup between two teams that don’t defend the run particularly well. And both teams have elite running backs, so I do think there could be more successful drives than expected in this game. If these teams are running the ball well, Wilson and O’Connell will at least be in manageable situations throughout. That said, I think this total might be a little too low.
I also don’t think you can rule out a defensive touchdown in a game like this, as Wilson is as mistake prone as it gets and O’Connell can occasionally hold the ball too long under pressure. I just can see a few fumbles or picks between the two of them, and one of those can easily go the other way for six.
It also just feels too easy to take the Under in a game with two teams this bad. The entire betting public will be going Under, especially with how frequently primetime Unders have hit.
Jets vs. Raiders Player Props

Zach Wilson Over 13.5 Rushing Yards
Before rushing for only seven yards against the Chargers last game, Wilson had rushed for at least 14 yards in four straight games and five of his previous six. He has not been shy about using his athleticism this year, and I think he’ll pick up some yards on the ground in this game. Wilson will also be on the move often because his offensive line is banged up and the Raiders will be coming after him. So, I trust that he’ll tuck it and run a few times when he’s already using his legs.
Jets vs. Raiders Prediction
I’m just not in the business of passing up on betting against this version of the Jets. It feels like New York’s season is spiraling right now, especially with all the questions surrounding Wilson under center. This is one that I’m adding to my Week 10 NFL best bets card.
