The Monday after the Super Bowl used to be spent running around to a bunch of books to cash my prop bets, but with all my wagers this Sunday having been made on mobile apps, I had a lot of time on my hands.
It was frustrating to have nothing to do, especially as I knew my afternoon was going to be hectic as I had to pick my kids from school, pick up Benihana takeout for my wife (and the only one that allows that in town is the one at the Fashion Show Mall on the Strip) and write the annual Nevada Super Bowl handle story. In past years, the Gaming Control Board would usually send out its press release with the figures around 3 or 3 p.m. PT. Luckily for me, I didn’t have to wait that long as the GBC released them at 2:11 p.m. PT and I rushed to be the first to Tweet out the results on my @ViewFromVegas account and then quickly writing my story for the VSiN.com website on Nevada shattering its state record for Super Bowl handle and then commenced running around town the rest of the afternoon before finally enjoying our Valentine’s dinner.

As for my Best Bet of the day, that was a cakewalk as the Pelicans (%plussign% 3.5) jumped out to a 29-17 lead vs. the Raptors (who we were fading in the game after having their 8-game winning streak snapped, thus an “anti-swagger” play) and then coasted to a 120-90 victory.
It turned out to be one of my favorite Valentine’s Day ever!
Let’s recap the rest of Monday’s betting action and then I’ll try to keep the winning ways going with a best bet for Tuesday.
Monday’s recaps
NBA: Dogs went 5-4 SU and 6-3 ATS on Monday. The upsets were by the Thunder (%plussign% 10 at Knicks), Nets (%plussign% 1.5 vs. Kings and snapping 11-game losing streak), Blazers (%plussign% 11.5 at Bucks), Pelicans (%plussign% 3.5 vs. Raptors) and Clippers (%plussign% 6.5 vs. Warriors). In addition, the Magic (%plussign% 11) covered in a 121-111 loss at the Nuggets). Overs went 6-3.
CBB: In Monday’s only game involving a Top 25 team, No. 6 Kansas beat Oklahoma State 76-62, covering as a 10.5-point home favorite. The game stayed Under the betting total of 143.5 points.
NHL: Faves went 3-1 Monday with the lone upset by the Blackhawks (%plussign% 145 in 3-1 win at Jets). The Wild (-230 in 7-4 win vs. Red Wings), Maple Leafs (-250 in 6-2 win at Kraken) and Oilers (-155 in 3-0 win at Sharks) won as faves and all also covered the -1.5 puck line. Over/Unders split 2-2.
Tuesday’s Take
Wake Forest (%plussign% 11) at Duke: Wake Forest is still underrated in my eyes. The Demon Deacons lost the earlier meeting with Duke, 76-64, but they’re 7-2 SU and ATS since then and I expect them to have a better showing this time around. The Blue Devils, as good as they are in Coach K’s final season, have a tendency to have letdowns and let teams stick around as they’ve had seven non-covering wins already this season.
Good luck today (and every day!).
