Tuley’s Takes Today: NFL Week 3 recap; Contest updates; Tuesday pick (9-28)

197

NFL Week treated us well in the Tuley’s Takes home office, but it ended on a sour note as we had the Eagles in their 41-21 loss to the Cowboys on Monday Night Football.

The Eagles were dominated on both sides of the ball – one of their TDs came on defense and another in gargage time – so we can’t even claim we had the right side.

Let’s get to the general recaps, including a look in Contest Corner, and then I’ll give my top play for Tuesday. It shouldn’t surprise anyone that we’re going to continue the Cardinals’ 16-game winning streak as we cashed with them on seven straight days from last Monday through Sunday (and all at plus-money as we used the -1.5 run line on days where they weren’t underdogs). Despite their lengthy streak, they’re still dogs in Tuesday’s series opener against the Breweres.

Monday’s betting recaps

NFL: Cowboys routed the Eagles 41-21 on Monday Night Football to wrap up NFL Week 3. The Cowboys also covered as 3.5-point home favorites (the game went Over the betting total of 51.5). Faves went 9-6 SU for the week with the Buccaneers-Rams game closing pick-'em, but dogs led 8-7 ATS; home/road teams split 8-8 SU & ATS for week; Unders went 11-5.

More NFL: Faves lead 26-21 SU so far on the season with that one pick-’em, but dogs lead 29-18 ATS (61.7 percent). Road teams lead 24-23 SU with 1 neutral-site game (Packers-Saints in Week 1) and 26-21 ATS (55.3 percent). Unders lead 28-20 (58.3 percent), though prime-time Overs are 8-1, so Sunday day-time Unders are 27-12 (69.2 percent).

MLB: Favorites went 4-1 on Monday's light schedule with the only upset by the Nationals (%plussign% 147 at Rockies). Faves lead 1,347-918 (59.5 percent) on the season with 55 games closing pick-'em. Overs went 4-1 Monday as Unders' slim lead on the season was cut to 1,113-1,100-101 (50.3 percent).

Contest Corner

TD TONY and FIRST FIVE lead the Westgate SuperContest at 14-1 through the first three weeks of the NFL season, but more importantly for them, they’re the first major football winners in Las Vegas this season as they will each win $50,000 for tying for the best record in the Westgate’s first three-week mini-contest over Weeks 1-3 (first prize was $75,000 with $25,000 for second, so they split the difference). TEMPTEST is in sole possession of third place and wins $5,000.

In SuperContest Gold (the $5,000 winner-take-all version of the SC), there’s an early three-way tie (TKASPRO277, MILESTOGO and MAYRIDGE 3) for first place at 10-4-1.

In Circa Sports Million III, DeadMoneyMedia.com (aka Jesse Flynn) is the last remaining undefeated contestant at 15-0. Their first payouts comes after the first Quarter that wraps up after Week 4. DeadMoneyMedia has the inside track on the $171,750 first-place prize, but there are 10 entrants tied for 2nd at 14-1, so the top money spots are up for grabs. Second place is worth $50,000 with $25,000 for third. There is also a Last-Place Booby Prize of $25,000. FRANKIE BLACK and Dos Hermanos are tied for the lead in that race at 1-14 with eight more at 2-13.

Circa Survivor has 2,917 entrants still alive after NFL Week 3 after the final one advanced with the Cowboys on Monday Night Football. The Top 7 choices all won (though the big escape of the week was for the 340 that were on the Ravens in their miracle win), with the most eliminations by those who used the Giants (28).

Tuesday’s Take

St. Louis Cardinals (%plussign% 106) vs. Brewers: After a day off, the Cardinals bring their 16-game winning streak into a home series against the Brewers. The Cardinals are locking down the NL’s second wild-card spot while the Brewers are still coasting to the playoffs as the NL Central champs and are locked into the No. 2 seed. We’ll gladly take the Cards as short underdogs again (they were dogs in the four-game sweep in Milwaukee last week). We get Adam Wainwright (16-7, 3.05 ERA) against Brandon Woodruff (9-10, 2.52 ERA) with the price averaging %plussign% 106 overnight, with a low of even money at BetMGM and %plussign% 112 at Circa. As always, shop around for the best number whether you’re betting here in Nevada, in another legalized state or offshore.

Good luck today (and every day!).
