Week 12 NFL: Previewing the Cincinnati Bengals-Tennessee Titans matchup

93

Cincinnati Bengals at Tennessee Titans

This week is a rematch of last year’s divisional-round playoff game in which the Bengals (+4) went to Nashville and knocked off the top-seeded Titans 19-16. Despite Joe Burrow being sacked nine times, Cincinnati won by holding Tennessee to 1-for-8 on third downs and forcing three turnovers — all Ryan Tannehill interceptions.

Tennessee has had its share of good fortune this season. The Titans are 7-3 and yet have been outgained in eight of their 10 games. Last week’s victory in Green Bay on Thursday night was arguably Tennessee’s best performance of the season. The Titans outgained the Packers 408-271 and were able to win with Derrick Henry being held to 87 yards on 28 carries.

Meanwhile, Cincinnati has won four of its last five after rebounding from an 0-2 start largely because of  Burrow and the offense being top 10 in overall Offense DVOA, Pass DVOA and Rush DVOA. The Bengals also rank thirrd in the league for scoring at 26.5 points per game.

The Titans offense has been fairly pedestrian, but the team has been carried by a defense that ranks No. 1 in the league against the run (82.2 yards per game).

After its own 0-2 start, Tennessee has won seven of its last eight and is on an 8-0 ATS run. Yet the Titans are home underdogs in a playoff revenge game? Hmmmm.
