Week 17 NFL: Previewing the Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens matchup

Pittsburgh Steelers at Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens punched a ticket to the postseason with their 17-9 win over the Falcons in Week 16, so now we wait to see if they push Lamar Jackson to play this week or if they let Tyler Huntley roll with the offense again. Baltimore has scored 19, 30, 16 and 26 points with Huntley the starter in the last four games. The Ravens still have a shot to win the AFC North with the head-to-head tiebreaker over the Bengals, so there is some incentive to get Jackson back out there.

For the Steelers, one of the most impressive coaching feats in league history is on the line. Mike Tomlin has been the sideline boss of the Steelers since 2007 and has never had a losing season. Pittsburgh is 7-8 with this game and a date at home against the Browns left on the docket. You know the players are well aware of his streak and pulled out a last-minute 13-10 win over the Raiders to give him a chance.

Pittsburgh’s defense really buckled down, holding the Raiders to 3.9 yards per play in Week 16. The Steelers only had 5.3, but had 7.6 YPP on the 10-play, 76-yard drive that won the game. They’ve won four of the last five, and the offense does seem to be better with Kenny Pickett over Mitch Trubisky, even if some of the advanced numbers aren’t quite as keen on the first-rounder out of Pitt.

Over the last four weeks, the Steelers are a top-10 offense in EPA per play, while the Ravens rank 21st. Both defenses have similar advanced metrics, but Baltimore’s done a terrific job against the run. These teams know each other inside and out, so another close game is to be expected.
