Best NHL Player Prop Bets for Wednesday, March 1st

Today’s NHL schedule features just six games but there are plenty of player prop betting opportunities. Here is one of my favorite shot props for Wednesday, March 1st. All odds via DraftKings Sportsbook.

Seth Jarvis Over 2.5 Shots on Goal (-110)

Forward Seth Jarvis is thriving playing alongside Sebastian Aho on the top line. The 21-year-old has arguably been Carolina’s top shot generator over the last couple of months. Max Pacioretty (injured) aside, only Andrei Svechnikov has registered more shots on goal than Jarvis dating back to December 27th.

Jarvis has registered three or more shots on goal in 16 of his last 24 games dating back to Dec. 27th (including six out of his last eight road games) and he’s cashed this prop in eight straight games. Jarvis is on the second power play, but the Golden Knights take the fewest penalties in the league and his even strength play is important.

Vegas might not strike you as the ideal spot to play the over on an opposing players shot prop as the Golden Knights are good at suppressing shots (10th in shots against per 60 minutes) but a closer look uncovers the fact that they allow more shots versus Eastern Conference teams (even at home) and no team generates more shots per 60 minutes than Carolina.

Of course, the Hurricanes’ shot volume is larger at home than it is on the road, but they still rank as one of the top teams in the category regardless of venue. There are some other intriguing players in this market, like Brent Burns at -130, but Jarvis has been particularly good at even strength and that should come in handy in a game against Vegas, where special teams often don’t play as big of role as they do elsewhere.
