NHL Best Props
Ten days ago, who could have thought we’d be talking about a Game 7? The Edmonton Oilers looked down and out, but now they’re one win away from achieving what could be the most historic comeback of all time – not only in hockey but possibly all professional sports. Monday night will be incredible; at this point, it’s nearly immoral to bet against Connor McDavid and the Oilers. Let’s get into our last NHL best props of the season.
Edmonton at Florida (-115, 5.5)
If someone were to tell you that the Edmonton Oilers would win 5-1 at home in Game 6 and that Connor McDavid wouldn’t even register a point, you’d probably think the Florida Panthers are completely cooked. You know what? They just might be.
How can Florida feel confident at this point?
The Oilers have completely taken the game to Florida and have dictated the pace for the past three games, but what has changed the most is the goaltending.
Since Game 4, the goaltending has completely flipped in this series. Sergei Bobrovsky, who looked like he was a lock for the Conn Smythe after Game 3, boasting a .912 save percentage and a 2.64 goals against average in the opening three games has now skated to a .793 SV% and a 5.06 GAA since the start of Game 4.
Stuart Skinner’s performance in the opening three games of the series was fine but not exceptional. In those games, he had a .901 save percentage with a 2.58 goals against average, but since Game 4, he has now earned a .942 SV% with a 1.67 GAA, which is outstanding.
Goaltending isn’t the only area of the game that Edmonton feels confident in right now. Their penalty kill has been a complete game-changer. Including the entire postseason, the Oilers are at a 94.1% success rate. They have only given up four power play goals against in the postseason and just one in this series. The Panthers have converted on just one of their 18 attempts on the man-advantage. Some may say that the Oilers, in fact, have a “power kill,” considering that they have actually outscored Florida in this series when shorthanded.
In a do-or-die Game 7, everyone tightens up just a bit, and we saw that happen briefly in Game 6. Each team only had 21 shots on goal, and I anticipate Game 7 to be somewhat similar.
I’m taking an interesting approach to this one because you truly can never predict what will happen in a Game 7, but McDavid didn’t even record a shot on goal in Game 6.
To me, this one might be about Skinner and the Oilers penalty kill continuing to change the game.
