Wednesday Best Bets, Tuesday Recaps

Tuesday was a day of rest and catching up on some household chores after another action-packed sports betting weekend.
The day didn’t end so great as we lost our top play (or at least what we thought was our top play) on the Spurs +18.5 at the Suns as they fell behind by 17 points after the first quarter and the Suns coasted to a 21-point win, 115-94. However, we did win our secondary play on the Blazers +18 at the Grizzlies as they only lost 119-109 – and then we wound up with a nice profit on the day thanks to hitting our NHL First-Period Over parlay at +145 on the Sabres-Panthers and Kraken-Canucks. The first game had the Sabres and Panthers trade goals to go over at 1-1 while the Canucks scored 2 goals in the first 13:09 against the Kraken, who added another to goal with 3:02 left in the first period to also cash for anyone who had to lay Over 2 goals.

Let’s get to our daily (full-game) recaps of all the major betting action on Tuesday and look for more winners on Wednesday as I have another NHL 1P Over parlay and my first MLB 1st 5 Inning play of the season (note: I’ll leave the Masters handicapping to my VSiN colleagues in the Masters Betting Guide, the “Long Shots” podcast and our other programming on-air and on the VSiN.com website.

Wednesday Recaps

NBA: Favorites went 10-3 SU but underdogs led 7-5-1 ATS. The upsets were by the Rockets (+11.5 vs. Nuggets), Hawks (+5.5 at Bulls) and Kings (+4 at Pelicans). The Blazers (+19 at Grizzlies), Pistons (+14 vs. Heat), Wizards (+13.5 vs. Bucks) and Jazz (+11 vs. Lakers) all covered as double-digit dogs in losses. The push was by the Cavaliers (-4 in 117-113 win at Magic). Road teams led 8-5 SU but split 6-6-1 ATS. Unders 7-6.

More NBA: On the season, favorites improved to 781-391 SU with 16 games closing pick-’em, but dogs still improved slim lead to 575-571-26 ATS. Home teams lead 692-496 SU and 594-570-24 ATS (51%). In totals wagering, Overs’ slim lead dipped to 593-577-18 (50.7%).

MLB: Dogs went 8-6 Tuesday with the biggest upsets by the Tigers (+240 at Astros), A’s (+167 vs. Guardians) and Phillies (+145 at Yankees). Road teams went 9-5. Overs led 7-6-1 with the push in CLE-OAK (7). On the season, faves lead 44-34 w/ 1 PK;. Road teams took a 41-38 lead. Overs lead 44-32-3 (thanks mostly to going 13-1-1 on Monday otherwise Over/Unders have been 50/50).

NHL: Faves went 9-2 with upsets by the Blackhawks (+335 in 4-3 win at Flames) and Predators (+120 in 3-2 OT win vs. Golden Knights). Home teams led 6-5. Unders 8-3.

Wednesday NHL Best Bet

Flames-Jets 1P Over 1.5 -140 / Oilers-Ducks 1P Over -190 (parlay pays +162): While the Flames are the No. 3 1P Over team this season, the Jets are the No. 3 1P Under team, but they’re just 5-5 in their last 10 games and I’m counting on the Flames’ style to prevail and get us at least 2 goals in the opening 20 minutes, I’m much more confident in the Oilers-Ducks as they combine to be 97-56 (63.4%) in 1P Overs – also shop around as I’m sure several books will shade this 1P total to 2 goals (though that didn’t hurt out Kraken-Canucks play on Tuesday).

Wednesday MLB Best Bet

Mets First 5 Innings +120 at Brewers: Let’s make our first MLB 1st 5 play with the Mets (with David Peterson) at a fair +120 price in Milwaukee (with Corbin Burnes). Peterson took the loss in the team’s second game last Friday, but allowed just 1 run in 5 innings and struck out 5 while Burnes was knocked around for 4 runs in 5 innings by the Cubs last Thursday. I expect the Mets to bounce back from being shut out last night as several players have had success vs. Burnes (Pete Alonso, .333, 1 HR in 12 AB; Starling Marte, .400 in 5 AB; Jeff McNeil, .308 in 13 AB; Brandon Nimmo, .500 in 12 AB).
