ATP Monte-Carlo Masters: Tennis best bets for Cerundolo vs. Berrettini, Thiem vs. Rune – Wednesday, April 12th

The ATP Monte-Carlo Masters tournament is the first Masters 1000 event of the season that is played on a clay-court surface. We’re fresh off the Sunshine Double, which featured some of the best talents in the world competing in 1000-level events on the hard courts of Indian Wells and Miami. But we’re now gearing up for the 2023 French Open, so get used to seeing a lot of red clay over the next couple of weeks. With this being yet another massive event in the tennis season, VSiN is here to provide you with daily tennis best bets. Francisco Cerundolo vs. Matteo Berrettini

Cerundolo is a better clay-court player than Berrettini is, and he comes into this one on a better run of form. The Argentine just made it to the quarterfinals of the Miami Open, and he also happens to be 4-1 in his last five matches. When you combine that with the fact that Cerundolo will have the edge in long rallies, it isn’t hard to see him winning at least a set here. However, Berrettini should be able to do the same.

The most powerful weapon in this entire match will be Berrettini’s serve, and his ability to earn himself some quick, easy holds should be big here. He’s not going to gift any service games to Cerundolo, but the same can’t be said the other way around. Cerundolo’s serve is a major weakness at this point, and that means that Berrettini should have some opportunities to break.

Considering how hard it is to pick the right side in this matchup, you might as well back the over on the game total. This one has all makings of a three-set battle, so you can potentially cash in and then enjoy a stress-free decider.

Bet: Over 21.5 Games (-155)

Dominic Thiem vs. Holger Rune

Thiem is slowly starting to show some signs of life, as he has won three of his last four matches — with all four coming on clay. The Austrian is one of the best clay-court players in the world when he’s at his best, which obviously isn’t the case right now. However, he’s still a very smart player and knows how to construct points on these slow surfaces. That should be a massive advantage when facing Rune, who hasn’t played a clay-court match since last summer.

Not only is Rune set to play his first match of the year on the dirt, but he also happens to be struggling coming into this one. The 19-year-old is just 3-3 in his last six matches, and he recently split with his coach, Patrick Mouratoglou. Players don’t usually make changes like that when things are going well, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he hit a bit of a rough patch in the coming months.

Look for Thiem to make things really hard on Rune in this one, and don’t be surprised if the Austrian pulls the upset. This is play we’d suggest going a little bigger on, and the moneyline is worthy of a little sprinkle.

Bet: Thiem +1.5 Sets (-130)
