While the rest of the sports betting world gears up for Week 0 of college football, which we already covered yesterday, I’ve got my sights set on a four-game WNBA slate Thursday night. It’s looking like a two-team race for the WNBA crown and our action tonight will lead us to games involving both the New York Liberty and the Las Vegas Aces.
New York Liberty (-6, 165.5) at Connecticut Sun
First, let’s head to Connecticut where the Sun will host the Liberty (-5.5) in a game that the season-long metrics would say there’s value on Connecticut, thanks to a sluggish start to the season for the Liberty while they acclimated their new star-studded pieces; however, the recent performances of these teams lead my T Shoe Index to forecast an 9-point Liberty win tonight on the road.
Pick: New York Liberty -6 (play to 7)
Las Vegas Aces (-14.5, 170.5) at Chicago Sky
The Las Vegas Aces looked invincible for the better part of the season but have laid some eggs in recent games vs the Liberty and Sparks, and did not cover the spread in their last game against Atlanta. Tonight, they’ll face the Chicago Sky, a team fighting for their playoff lives. This Aces team is certainly capable of lighting up the scoreboard, but their TSI defensive rating has suffered lately, barely putting them in the middle of the pack over their last 10 games, while the Sky’s offensive rating has taken a jump to 4th in the league over that span. TSI says the Sky keep it close enough to cover the massive 14.5 point spread here.
Pick: Chicago Sky +14.5 (play to 13.5)
